No, I don’t feel the need to support the employment of people who are tanking their employers with overly large guaranteed benefit programs (i.e. pensions.) If unions would take 401k plans like the rest of us, maybe they wouldn’t be bankrupting American companies.
Toyota and Honda have manufacturing plants here (mostly in the South), and are actually doing pretty well at it.
Ignorance is bliss? Or is yours denial?
If the Government of America, the Corporations and the People of America cared about well paying manufacturing jobs then we would not have decaying hollowed-out shells where booming factories once added value to American lives or dieing cities; but rather productive factories AND JOBS! Did I mention jobs?
Look at Germany and you are immediately proven wrong and ignorant. Highly unionized, highly paid and highly benefited workers in a country kicking manufacturing ass!
Unions are not the problem (not saying they are perfect by any means) or pay or benefits, the problem is too many people just itching for a dumb excuse to “get theirs” without any thought of their country and fellow worker.
Import buyers come up with the most creative (and BS laden) excuses for why they did not support one of the last remaining US manufacturing industries.

December 17, 2009 at 6:08 PM #495141Rt.66ParticipantReally?
I think the auto workers get paid too much so F’em; I’ll buy a Toyota and when the market share shrinks for the US companies I’ll blame the resulting problems on the workers and unions?
Really? WTF?

December 17, 2009 at 7:11 PM #495161moneymakerParticipantNever been to Detroit, can’t comment. I do own an F-150 truck however that seems to drive like a cadillac and gets the same mileage too. While @ See’s candies tonight I was amazed how many people are willing to stand in a 30 minute line to buy overpriced chocolate, and during a recession too. Obviously this recession isn’t affecting everyone equally. I do love See’s candies but I hear Brach’s is not that far behind. I also love my F-150 Lariat, just had to say it!
