The law should be applied fairly to everyone.[/quote]But it’s not.
Talk to any prosecutor. The crime is the crime and comparing to a hypothetical is no defense.
Not all speeders get stopped and fined. Some speeders are stopped so that they can be made examples and so that other drivers don’t speed.
If we can make an example of the guy who doesn’t pay his firefighting fee (by letting his house burn down) then why shouldn’t this cop be made an example of?
Many in law enforcement would argue that a high profile “catch” is great law enforcement and good deterrence against future crime.

I’d like to at least read something in the paper like, “D.A. now considering filing charges against other homeowners who have vandalized homes.”
I mean, at least pretend you’re going to do something about it. At least talk about it. They’re latching on to this guy for all the sins of all the FBs.
And let’s not forget his co-conspirator. Just one headline that says “Realtor destroys home.” Is that too much to ask or are realtors above the law and too sacred?
How about making examples out of realtors? Boy, would that be one heck of a slippery slope.

October 8, 2010 at 9:29 AM #614665Allan from FallbrookParticipantJp: How about we legalize marijuana in California, thus freeing up prosecutorial time to do other things, namely prosecuting these assholes and their ilk? IMHO, that would be a far better use of our tax dollars.
However, we all know that, while this putz and his wife should have the book thrown at them, their jobs and social position will prevent that from happening.
