Aecetia, I find it very funny that the right wingers like to compare to Obama to Hitler.
Allan from Fallbrook would tell them to go read to history books.
Brian: I’d also recommend we all bone up on some civics lessons as well (me, included).
You are also reverting to form in pillorying the Republicans while ignoring that the Dems did actually have a supermajority in the Senate until Scott Brown’s election.
Also, given Pelosi’s “drain the swamp” remark following the Abramoff scandal, it is the height of hypocrisy to ignore Rangel’s many ethical lapses. This underscores the fundamental problem with Congress: They’re a group of corrupt incompetents. Evan Bayh’s parting shot about an inability to serve the people may have been somewhat self-serving, but it was also correct. The stench emanates from both sides of the aisle.

March 1, 2010 at 9:00 PM #519594AecetiaParticipantRangel should join the Dukester. I am quite sick of the double standard when it comes to Democrat crooks vs. Republican crooks. To me a crook is a crook.

March 1, 2010 at 11:36 PM #519644briansd1GuestI think that Rangel’s transgressions are nowhere in same league at Cunningham’s. Not even close.
Cunningham was convicted in a Federal criminal investigation by the Justice Department. Rangel is not being prosecuted. Very different from Cunningham and Abramoff.
Most politicians fall because of moral lapses.
I don’t have a problem with a Democrat who cheats on his wife or gets caught smoking marijuana. That’s part of being human.
But I do have a problem with Republicans committing the same moral offenses because Republicans are holier than thou. They are always moralizing about family values, Christian values; and they put themselves out as beyond reproach.
I do feel sorry for Mark Sanford.
So if that’s a double standard, I’m guilty of it.
