Can we start talking SERIOUSLY about qualified GOP candidates?

Okay, fellow Piggs, I’m busting my OP cherry here. As you all know, I’ve shared my opinions aplenty, but this is the first thread I’ve ever initiated.

Thanks to jpinpb’s post in the recent Ron Paul discussion, in which she mentioned the viability of Buddy Roemer as a GOP presidential candiate, I’ve been inspired to ask my Piggmates whether they have favorites among the not-so-well-known in the race. I’ve been following the debates, and am shocked and dismayed by the overall lack of, shall we say, Presidential qualities in this crop.

I, myself, have been favorably impressed by former New Mexico governor, Gary Johnson. After hearing and watching candidates dumbing themselves down (if that’s possible for some of them) and suddenly adopting positions they were condemning two months ago in order to fit some illusory extreme-right Christianite/Tea Party Presidential image, it’s refreshing to hear an intelligent, accomplished Republican candidate come right out and favor the legalization of pot, defend a woman’s right to choose, and proclaim their firm belief that there is scientific evidence of climate change.

Anybody else have anything to say about Roemer or Johnson, or any other declared candidate that CNN doesn’t designate debate-worthy?

I’ve been mired w/some unexpected surprises while trying to put in a patio, so I haven’t had the luxury of checking candidates. Not sure whether the person wants the credit, but let’s say I got an email w/information on Roemer and from what I’ve read, seen and heard so far, I like him better than the others. I’ll do some checking on Johnson when I get a chance. Thanks, eaves. I was wondering why there wasn’t a thread about this sooner.
