What an outrage yesterday: at our Bronco All-Star baseball game (La Jolla Blue lost), they recited ‘The Pledge of Allegiance’! Including that darn phrase, ‘…under God…’
This on City of San Diego property. With public school kids on the team (in addition to those darn parochial school kids). Hats off and everything.
Who has the City Attorney’s e-mail, so that I can report this outrage?
Unrelated, on the chain link fence at the field was posted a ‘Free Lunch this Summer’ banner. Kids 5-18 years old can show up during summer at the facility for a free lunch. Roger Hedgecock posits that, since by policy the school district will not check identification, lots of adults and illegals will be showing up for free lunch, too.
Good thing that we have lots of money to burn in this city.
June 27, 2007 at 12:30 AM #62388CardiffBaseballParticipantI manage in Little League and we say the pledge of allegiance before every game followed by the little league pledge (I trust in god, love my country, and will obey it’s laws ….) Can’t believe LL hasn’t been taken the woodshed for these pledges.

June 27, 2007 at 8:08 AM #62412AnonymousGuestBC, that’s a real treat, being able to say the P of A and LLP before EVERY game.
We have lots of ACLU types here in liberal La Jolla who probably shut down such some years ago. Killjoys.
And, that’s great that you manage your son’s team; you have your life priorities in order, obviously.

JG the city is only providing the first loaf of bread, which was donated by a good samaritan. Jesus will be on hand to multiply the loaves. You should be greatful for the “Basket of plenty” in La Jolla. It might take some pressure off your soup kitchen. I heard they won’t be checking ID’s as you have said, but they will be checking bank statements to keep the conservative christians happy. Would you like to volunteer?
Keep up that Christian spirit.God bless you.Baseball Guy,
Good job with the coaching. I wonder did you have a large discussion about the implications of the P of A from many perspectives or did you just get them to recite it real puppet like? Thanks for being careful not to hijack threads JG. Some of your comrades are really hurt over our last discussion. I don’t think they realize that we don’t tend to hijack threads while they are still the focus of the first post.I certainly don’t mean any disrespect to anyone who doesn’t enter the fray voluntarily. that said if they do get in he “kitchen and can’t stand the heat” they should just leave without going to other threads to discredit us amongst the more steadfast housing bubblers.

June 27, 2007 at 2:24 PM #62552CardiffBaseballParticipantRustico, I have nothing to do with the either pledge, it’s just always done that way, and I have not discussed any of the implications. This is apparently a Little League tradition, as best as I can tell. The moment my kids moved here two years ago, it was just something everyone was already doing.
I have not heard any objections, and I have some serious Libs on my teams. I do let me son’s giggle at their bumper stickers though. After they giggled at one of the stickers I explained to my kids (in front of the car owner dad) ahh kids, he’s a lawyer, he is supposed to have those things on his car.
You have to have fun with this stuff. As I constantly remind one of my “AlGore-Vegetarian” assistant coaches to give his kid some dang steak…he is almost 2 years older than mine and much smaller. As long as you don’t take yourself too seriously you can poke fun at one another’s beliefs.

June 27, 2007 at 3:12 PM #62561NotCrankyParticipantThanks Cardiff, Things are probably easier when you openly identify yourself as liberal or conservative and get on with the main expectations of the establishment and middle class ways. Maybe I should raise my kids ,one vegetarian, one beef eating machine and one yet to establish a preference to be conformists on matters not related to food, like mindless nationalism/patriotism mixed with religion AKA P of A?
Anyway thanks for the coaching. You don’t have to respond.

Young Americans Are Leaning Left, New Poll Finds

Young Americans are more likely than the general public to favor a government-run universal health care insurance system, an open-door policy on immigration and the legalization of gay marriage, according to a New York Times/CBS News/MTV poll. The poll also found that they are more likely to say the war in Iraq is heading to a successful conclusion.June 27, 2007 at 3:46 PM #62619PerryChaseParticipantjg, since you’re fond of studies, here’s one showing that young people are coming to their senses. Comments:
Suspect source: New York Times/CBS News/MTV poll
Interesting finding: “…The poll also found that they (17-29 year olds) are more likely (than all adults) to say the war in Iraq is heading to a successful conclusion…”
Not surprising that these kids (17-29 year olds) lean left. Lots of young folks lean left, then grow up and wise up. Remember the line from Churchill, about voting with your heart when you are young and with your mind when you are older?
Enjoy the comfort while you can, Perry, ’cause many will have kids, get responsible, and start voting responsibly, then.
