I like oak trees. They are slow growing but they are beautiful when mature and trained. Oaks have deep root systems that don’t damage concrete.
Oak trees also don’t need much water when establised, so they are more climate appropriate.
People grow pepper trees because they grow fast. They are messy like eucalyptus trees.

These trees add value to the street I think, anybody have any idea what kind they are? I’ve never really understood why the city plants eucalyptus trees everywhere, like along El Cajon Blvd where eventually they are going to topple over and cause damage if not death. Like this one in front of Johnny’s restaurant on el cajon blvd.http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&abauth=56bb0df6:ZHey7ZvELccNvf4K690hbP6w_88&q=8803+country+club+dr+la+mesa+ca&aq=&vps=1&jsv=338a&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=46.630055,106.787109&num=10&abstate=A:actbar-savetoMay 7, 2011 at 10:35 AM #693413moneymakerParticipanthttp://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&abauth=56bb0df6:ZHey7ZvELccNvf4K690hbP6w_88&q=8803+country+club+dr+la+mesa+ca&aq=&vps=1&jsv=338a&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=46.630055,106.787109&num=10&abstate=A:actbar-saveto

They have nice purple flowers but they are a little messy IMHO and need more watering than oak trees.Jacarandas are fine along the street where somebody else does the sweeping. Don’t plan jacarandas in the back or where there there’s no wind to blow the leaves and flower droppings away.
