When choosing a buyer’s realtor, is there any difference between agencies?

Is it recommended to stick with the bigger agencies?

Also, is it common in today’s market to ask for a buyer’s agent to take a lesser commission and apply a credit to the sale?

Any tips in what to do to find a good agent (i.e., assuming that an agent is not being referred to me)?
