Lastly, I stand by my statement that most people are tech-phobic in the u.s…….Otherwise you would see targeted coupons/advertisements/promotions based on geo-coordinates and you would see consumers and retailers jump on technology like this….
flu, I usually find your posts hilarious and interesting, but were you high when you wrote this?
Actually, no I’m not…. Relative to europe/asia, U.S. lags in adopting cutting consumer technology..
*What was the lag in the U.S. adoption of HDTV versus versus when Asia first adopted?
*We are just starting to see smart-meters/etc, and in asia/europe it’s been around for some time
*Mobile payments is just starting right now in U.S., but it’s been popular in Asia and Europe for years…You can use your mobile phone to make vending machine purchases…
*Right now, we’re just starting to *think* about NFC. while in Europe, they are already using NFC….Do people even know what NFC is here?
Many US companies provide geo-targeted experiences. Mobile is a more convenient channel for it. Radio, TV, Websites (groupon) are other more common channels.
There’s some promising apps using NFC coming out but mainly social in nature. I don’t foresee it becoming a standard until the battery issues are solved in smart phones. Which btw, is a huge problem! OP solve that please.

March 14, 2011 at 12:13 PM #676721saiineParticipantIt doesn’t take much to talk yourself out of a goal that will take tremendous amounts of work. I’d guess that the average entrepreneur could have convinced individuals that some of the most successful sites today would be pointless.
Facebook? Why not use myspace
Twitter? Why not just use myspace
Reddit/Digg? Why not just use delicious
Vimeo? Why not just use youtubeEtc..
The thing that makes Zuckerberg above average is that he executed, and kept executing.
It’s a waste of time to come to a forum and try to validate your idea. I understand the exercise, but at the end of the day it’s pointless. If you need validation then you do not love your idea, and if you don’t love your idea you probably shouldn’t do it.
