It’s the debt.
I remember when teenagers had to work part-time to save a down-payment for a car.
Then suddenly everyone could buy a car for zero down, no credit, bad credit. You can even lease a car for even less monthly payment.
The car bubble was due to credit.
What happens when people have no equity in their cars or their houses? They walk.

Maybe I can get a used tesla in a few years for around 10K then wait a few more years when hopefully the replacement batteries come down to maybe 5K .
