I will also say that I do not mind killwinds post nearly as much as svelt and some others are sure to. Debating if this is a proper use of taxpayer money is an acceptable thing to do, even if it is about the disabled. A number of other alternatives were proposed which would benifit a larger and more diverse group of people. 800k is alot of money to spend on 6 peoples benifit.
The thing I would respond back with is that this money has been allocated to this type of project, and is not general fund revenue that could be used for any project. Please see below:
TERI applied for a Community Development Block Grant or “CDBG” loan from the City of
Carlsbad in February 2008 to help them acquire another home in Carlsbad that could be used to
house up to six clients with autism and developmental disabilities.
CDBG funds are provided by the federal government to assist communities in meeting the needs of
low income households of all types, including those with special needs such as the disabled. As such most of killwinds deserving alternatives are not elegable for this money.

December 23, 2008 at 4:00 PM #319559AnonymousGuestBecause the group house is labeled for the mentally disabled, they do not have to disclose any crimes that they may have committed because they are mentally disabled and that information is privileged and protected.
The level of the house will determine what type of group home.Based on a scale of 0-7 the higher the number the worse the type of mentally disabled(worse meaning criminal not mental disability). Once I know for certain the level I will post it here, anything above a 3 will have a criminal record
Also say the house is a level 3 house and one of them moves out, a level 7 mentally disabled person can then move in and the neighborhood doesnt need to be notified. So let me clarify for you bleeding hearts a level 7 disabled person can have raped a child and been acquitted because they are mentally disabled and are protected from prosecution due to thier disability.

December 23, 2008 at 4:14 PM #319565CBadParticipantAgreed DWCAP. I don’t mind the financial criticism either. But as I understand it those funds are only available for low income housing and not to fix issues listed here from killwind:
“There are Drug Rehab centers,Parenting centers or even free clinics, that just 100k would fund the project for one more year. Or how about repairing our nearly 70 year old high school. How about repairing some of the streets that have pot holes that are the size of some old buicks.”
Also, the high school? Prop P passed last year to repair the old and build a new high school. And pot holes the size of buicks? Where are those? Again, not really the point if the funds aren’t allocated for it anyway.
