Great post, Ren.
This subject of this thread is an 18-year “career” congressman who got involved in a skirmish that ONE of his constituents had with her lender who, by law, had and has the right to foreclose on their trust deed that his “constituent” had not been paying on for many months. If you read the U/T article included in the OP, and read the comments, you will find that many more of this congressman’s constituents (who voted him in TIME and TIME again) are FED UP with this person’s bid for sympathy for her to live in a 3500 sf house on 1/2 AC (know the street VERY well, thank you) free of charge. She is single with an adult child that became sick LONG AFTER SHE ATM’d her property to death and spent all her portion of the equity. She screams “VICTIM” and that somehow she should be exempt from paying her debts because she had to settle a divorce (so did several of the responders to the U/T article . . . lol), has only a “passive” rental income (only a small percentage of people have this asset!), quit her job (why??) and currently has a sick adult son staying with her (who can apply and probably qualify for CMS or Medi-Cal on his own).
Hey, I’ve had several friends and relatives who had to undergo cancer treatment (some even subsequently died). But not ONE of them stiffed their mortgaged lender while they were doing so.
Most people have just have had it up to here with the all BS on why someone is now broke who borrowed $539K in 2007, hardly paid back any of it and now demands to live free of charge in their upper middle class neighborhood while most everyone else struggles to live within their means.
Unlike BGIG here, who is sitting behing their computer “conceptualizing” how they think Big Government should be run, I RETIRED FROM LOCAL GOVERNMENT! I lived it and breathed it most of my adult life. I KNOW EXACTLY the purpose of each and every agency, their mission and why their “rules” are as they are. You might say I’m the “consummate bureaucrat” and “Gov” is my middle name!
I’m not against government but I don’t want my congressman wasting his time and our taxpayer dollars on grandstanding for another typical leech on society when he has A LOT bigger fish to fry, namely, border issues affecting all of us and unfunded mandates in CA, especially affecting border areas (ALL HIS TURF). These unfunded mandates are slowly bankrupting our cities, counties and state and tying up our government lawyers ad infinitum in attempts to fight for our meager “share” of Federal funds. When Filner elects to schlep around his turf “grandstanding” for this loser, he’s putting my government “in the way.” If he chooses to spend his time in this fashion, I choose to vote for someone who has the enthusiasm and integrity to represent us and our most pressing needs in our nation’s capitol. That’s democracy in action.
I’m actually REGISTERED WITH SAID CONGRESSMAN’S PARTY! I don’t intend to do an about face the other direction (Republican (esp. Tea Partiers . . . lol)). But I want “choices” on my ballot to vote for the best candidate for the job. Perhaps I will end up not even checking a box for the 51st on Nov. 2!
Without “government in the way,” I also believe our housing market would be much further along the path to recovery. Yes, the “government” has “intervened” far too much in borrower’s personal financial lives and this should never have happened. This paternal mindset on the part of Big Government is helping NO ONE and only prolonging the pain for everyone.
