We get these outfits taping or putting signs in our door about every year and have never paid them. I honestly can’t even remember if they’ve ever painted the numbers or not? I don’t think they have. I know I have never said NO I don’t want it and put the sign back out there to indicate so. Pretty sure the city paints the darn numbers on the curb for free so I never understood why you’d want the cheesy custom job with the waves or rainbows and crap. I see some of the neighbors have them. What about neighborhoods that don’t have sidewalks? Pretty sure the fire & police dept. finds those people. I’m 100% sure if I was accused of committing a crime the police could find my house, faded paint job or not! π

Cities generally do NOT paint addresses on curbs. In our neighborhoods in Los Angeles and here in San Diego, we always had to pay a crew (like these companies) to paint the curb.
We go overboard and paint it on the side of the curb and also along the top — so it’s easier to see from up high, and is less likely to be rubbed off by tires. We also have large, reflective numbers on our mailbox and have the standard numbers on our house.
Why? My DH, who works in emergency services, insists on it. He said that many calls are indeed delayed because the homes/businesses do not clearly display their addresses. They do have satellite images in many emergency vehicles now, but it does not make up for clearly visible address signs — think about finding the **exact** house in the dark while relying on the google-type images we see on RE sites.
Just my 2 cents.

July 6, 2009 at 3:09 PM #426553CBadParticipantWell, someone is occasionally painting the number on my curb and I haven’t paid them for it. I assumed it was the city. If not, thanks anonymous painter dude; you are doing a bang up job.
