Simple supply and demand. Skills in need command top dollar, regardless of how “stupid” those skills might be (stupidity of skill is irrelevant).I doubt AIG can hire me, you or Breezie to undo those contracts.

I agree with your message here. But it is counterbalanced by de Gaulle’s observation that, “The graveyards are filled with indispensable men.” At the end of the day, everyone’s dispensable. Even Rambo, despite the fact that the hot asian chick told him in Rambo II, “Rambo, you not indispensable.” And then she got shot by the Russian guy that looks like he could be Rutger Hauer’s brother. But I digress.
Dave: Wasn’t that Russian guy the same guy that played the bad guy in “Beverly Hills Cop”? I think it was.
Rambo always irritated me. Probably because he was Special Forces and I was a Ranger and there is no love lost, believe me. You wouldn’t find a Ranger running around the jungle with a Flashdance headband shooting explosive arrows at people. No, sir.
Over a longer period of time, everyone is expensible.. Over a shorter period of time, individuals with the knowledge are more indispensable. Time buys companies/people alternatives. If something needs to be done now, you need people who were with the knowledge base to do it, and you’ll have to pay a premium to get it done.
In this economy, take that to heart. That’s why there are some keys at your job you should never give away or share with someone else. It’s can very well be the difference between you getting 1 month of severance or perhaps 1 year of severance.

April 7, 2009 at 10:01 PM #377869daveljParticipantThat’s why they don’t make movies about Rangers. Because that Flashdance headband is gold! Gold, I tell ya! That’s what packs theaters, pal. Well, that and hot asian chicks. And explosive arrows. There’s actually a lot of stuff that packs theaters I guess, once I think about it.
(Actually, yeah, I think that was the same actor. Good memory.)
