ParticipantGood call noone. I’d would go for kicks but we will be out of town. Even if these houses were to sell at the starting bid, which they won’t, it would mean that we could take our time with the inventory of the greater market and get similiar or better prices.

ParticipantWhy don’t they allow electronic auctions (like eBay). That would attract larger pool of buyers. Just prequalify everyone before bidding. Something like a $20K hold on a credit card should be able to filter out a lot of noise.

ParticipantThe only thing that could happen that would make this auction newsworthy would be if one of the lenders announced their offerings would not be subject to minimum reserves.
Now THAT is an auction I’d like to see.

ParticipantSince the auctioneer has the luxury of reserves, shills and taking bids from the wall, the price will have nothing to do with the market, but instead how tweaked the auctioneer can get the potential buyer.

Absolutely, and if they can’t get buyers tweaked? I would love to see that.
Of course it might be masked by the game of charades you describe: “the auctioneer has the luxury of reserves, shills and taking bids from the wall,”
