[As to your procreation comments… it’s too philosophical and would confuse you. Believe whatever you want. Frankly, I don’t have the time or the patience.]
You’re not responding because you have no legitimate counterargument. My comments on that point went right over your head.
Davelj and Ricechex, a simple lesson from logic 101: a) Dave hates the Yankees b) Mariano Riviera is a Yankee c) Therefore Dave hates Mariano Riviera. That would be the logical conclusion to your little “Yankee” analogy that you used to illustrate your point about liking yourself. So, logically this is true without the distinction you made of including an exception (Rivera).
So, then when you indicate that you can be anti-human without being anti-Dave, there is supposedly an assumption that you have made a distinction of yourself. Right?
I’m just not buying it, Dave. You hate everybody else on the planet, but you love yourself. It usually doesn’t work that way. Not that you actually said you loathe humans, but judging from your posts that is the indication (which seems to have been picked up on by another poster as well). Again, I suspect your feelings are born out of a loathing of yourself. I’m not trying to psychoanalyze you, my comment about your childhood notwithstanding. I’m just telling you what I see. You have your opinion of me and I have mine of you. In spite of my loose words, I’m not saying you’re insane or anything like that (actually, I don’t know…). What I am saying is there is something “off”. As expressed in your posts, the cold, indifferent way you view life, “humans”, women, the planet, veers from the norm and it doesn’t take someone in the mental health industry to see that. I see no warmth in you. Most women would have a hard time getting close to you. Actually, most women would run in the opposite direction.

April 14, 2008 at 7:21 AM #186594NotCrankyParticipantMarion I did remark that my comments there were extremist. This was for the purpose of illustration. I think that was clear. “SEX” is not the issue(get your mind out of the gutter. Reproduction is natural and the idea of selfishness doesn’t apply. Whether we reproduce on this side of the international date line or the other is irrelevant except that because of how we manage the planet it has different consequences.
Very few people can abstain form sex, including these people who have strange theories about reproduction. While we are on the topic of those individuals, I would say they are probably just humans trying to justify the choices they have made in life. Don’t we all do that? I certainly hope they don’t have any moral issue that runs pathologically about who of us is having children.
One more thought came to mind. I bet some of this anti- reproduction people have all sorts of theories about pendng calamities. It seems some do worry a lot, peak oil, greenhouse gases. How do they know that the catastrophe that his us first won’t leave us glad that there was a large population in Africa and a “first” world country like the U.S? They don’t because their agenda is not about thinking it through but rather self-righteously defending their own individual psychology inspired behavior behavior(not having kids or not enjoying it). They really act like GOD or at least they think they are GOD. I am not saying every body who doesn’t have kids or doesn’t like their kids does this, only the ones who are conflicted about it.

I’m seeing it but I’m not believing it. As verbose as I am, this one leaves me speechless. That is, speechless except for just the one word that stands out above all else:
