Alternative fuels may be one to two years away

In case you don’t know, Venter’s company was the one that decoded the human genome.

He wants to create an organism that will eat Carbon Dioxide and produce fuel. Venter believes that the first alternative fuels to be made in this manner are one to two years away and will be usable within the existing infrastructure.

To me, this is the way fuels of the future are going to have to work. Hydrogen, electric, and biodiesel are all great, but we really need to start producing energy in a way that is in sync with our environment. Every other organism on the planet gets energy by eating things that are found in nature and then they excrete things that can be decomposed by nature. There’s no reason our cars and power plants can’t do the same.

I’d think that with Global Warming being such a hot button issue, we’d want to be moving away from fuels that require burning things, even if they are essentially recycling C02.

At best, this seems like a temporary solution.
