the other thing scandinavian countries have is startlingly high rates of atheism. Like, almost no one believes in god in norway.
Yes, I agree.
It’s easier to be guided by science, reason and facts if you’re not under the influence of superstition.

Heathcare reform was a wash, IMHO. But the bailout policy under O has given me pause over whether he is really pursuing the country’s goals or whether he is just selling out like the rest of them to the highest bidder.ok, rant off.
Healthcare was not a wash IMO. The government sought to control 1/6 of the economy through healthcare and they have succeeded. I am an analyst for a major healthcare provider in SD. What I thought was republican rhetoric to block healthcare during the legislation is in some ways becoming true. We have restructured our entire management model and are seeking anyway to cut costs/services in short of layoffs (I’m sure will come eventually) to make up for the cuts in reimbursement. Any open positions (100s) unfilled as of this week Monday were pulled from the system. We are on a complete hiring freeze. All this while dozens of private practices around the county wish to close up shop and join our medical group because we can negotiate a better reimbursement rate based on our size.

Brian, you mention that there is so much anger directed towards one side. Yes, that is true, the polls speak for themselves and the democrats will suffer greatly. As far as I am concerned, that party is dead. So what will happen? Republicans will take control again and most likely fail by following the same policies of the old. I only hope this happens fast because then that party will be dead. Then a third party will emerge. However, never underestimate the insane. People will continue to do the same and expect different results.
I’m unwilling to take the risk of the rise of a still-to-be-announced third party with still-to-be-announced platform of ideas.
I would rather live in prosperity rather than endure the hardship and deprivation of a transition to a completely new political order. That’s why I believe in incremental change.
I don’t underestimate the insane. I see what they are capable of in the Tea Party.
