I only have 2 kinds of socks. Black and white. All the same.
October 6, 2019 at 11:22 PM #813721spdrunParticipantI just throw them in a drawer — it’s as much effort to match them when you’re about to wear them as when folding laundry, so why not procrastinate?
October 7, 2019 at 4:00 PM #813723scaredyclassicParticipantbut why should i even have to think about putting socks together? im running out of the will to do stupid things. matching socks is starting to seem like maybe one of those.
also, it can be distressing to lose a sock in some cases. i’m missing a wool pantherella sock, i have the one, waiting for its mate. they were kind of expensive. i think they’re like 20 or 30 dollar socks?
now, one is missing, and i feel bad.
It’s been weeks. I think it is gone.
if I had only this type, I wouldnt even know if one were missing.
not only would i never have to match socks again, i would never have to know if one is missing.
Furthermore when one sock fails, you can toss the one and hold on to the other until he fails too.l, and he can live out the remainder of his useful life with a new friend.
Why would anyone ever have a variety of mismatched socks.
I could see say 7 pair blue, 7 athletic, and 5 wool?
But this sock chaos, it’s another example of the perils of too much choice. Basically we have every conceivable sock, but that traps us in sock hell. I blame capitalism.
October 7, 2019 at 4:03 PM #813724gzzParticipantI made this resolution years ago, but it requires planning.
For one thing, you have to throw away a lot of old socks to do this.
You then have to decide on a new sock and buy a lot of them *all at once.” Hanes changes the design on their ankle white socks constantly so 2017s don’t match 2018s. Often the difference is large and glaring. And best to do in store, because Amazon can mix products together in one listing. Or will have a mix of old and new stock.
Then there is the winter/summer issue. I wear thicker Wigwam socks in the winter and thinner hanes the rest of the year.
October 7, 2019 at 8:48 PM #813725scaredyclassicParticipantyeah. true. I’m kind of at a low sock ebb, not a lot of socks, less than my lifetime average, so now may be the time to make a move.
I was thinking I could bag all my old socks and designate them as foot or hand care socks, so I’d soak my feet or hands, slather them in vaseline and use these socks as foot moisturizing socks in bed.
this way i wouldnt have to feel bad about tossing socks.
then I’d have my separate wearing socks, whcih are all identical.
this changing of sock style from year to year even within the same brand, is maddening.
what is the one true sock, if you are just going to have one sock? It is so hard to predict the Sock Market.

I was trying to do something with elasticity and demand but that wouldve been worse.

I’m so intellectually in love with scaredy. His comments make so much sense to me.
Happy Yom Kippur!
October 10, 2019 at 6:51 PM #813737svelteParticipantI’ve been doing this for well over a decade.
Black socks for work.
Gray socks and tan booties for home.
That’s it.
When I wear my tan booties, my youngest grandchild asks me why I’m wearing girl socks. lol.

Yes!
So ideally get 100 pairs, and keep 80 in the package and open over time as needed.
I did this about 2010, but should have gone even bigger, maybe 200 sock pairs. The cotton percentage content and quality control of hanes just kept going down.
And Wigwam kept the quality up but changed the little logo slightly for no good reason.

Dang.
I’m afraid to go all in. I prefer to dollar cost average

seems the solution/marketplace is ready for a clog permanently affixed to a sock???

Our production designer [Darren Gilford] had everyone wearing Crocs in the movie. We didn’t even know what they were. Mike was like, ‘You’d have to be an idiot to wear these!’ By the time the movie came out, everyone was wearing them.”
