Might be a wait list issue, though it typically is less of a wait the younger you start.
Thanks for all the tips on this from the various posts above – we’ll probably put ourselves on the wait list first thing Monday am – even if we didn’t end up living near (like La Jolla Scenic Dr), might make sense to have daycare as close to wife’s work as possible.
They take infants as young as 3 months. Probably wouldn’t want to start at 3 months – wife will take as much time as she can, and then I’ll follow that by taking as much time as I can (maybe even contemplating unpaid leave for a few months if I can work that out with my employer).
Now we just have to find/buy/move-in-to a house before the little one arrives!

I talked to the wife this morning about the school issue. Apparently some kids have been sent to other schools (Del Mar Hills, Sycamore Ridge), but not (that we’re aware of) since Ocean Air opened. Right now, they seem to be letting some kids from the Ocean Air district go to Sage Canyon. So it would seem that if you live in the Sage Canyon district (which Bridle Ridge is in), then there would be room for your kids at Sage, and that some Ocean Air kids might be displaced in their favor. However, if you don’t sign up for the following school year by February, then they may (or may not) displace your kid in favor of someone not in the district, but who applied in February. They’re somewhat vague about how they decide these things. They also like to under-promise (or maybe I should say they’re extremely careful not to over-promise). It’s different every year, but friends of ours who just moved to Sage Canyon this year got both their kids (K and 4th) into Sage Canyon. And all the kids on our street (which is new) got into Sage.
Good Luck and let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks – this is exactly the kind of information we were hoping to get. And it confirms our thought that we should probably act quickly.

December 24, 2010 at 8:39 AM #644606zkParticipantNot sure if it came across like I didn’t like UC. I like UC (but I did want to set the record straight on CV), and if you don’t mind an older home, slightly less-good schools, and less young families, it’s no doubt a great place to live. The house on Condon is a bit small, but it looks like a pretty cool retro little house on a cool lot (sure, the back yard is all pool, but you’re surrounded by canyon). Somebody mentioned train noise. I don’t know about you, but I like train noise. The train only comes by occasionally, and I think it’d be cool to watch and listen to. I’m pretty sure they don’t run late at night, so they shouldn’t wake you up. You’ll get noise from jets departing Miramar there, too.
