flu and sdr, count me in the spoiled group as well. Like yellowS2K and UCGal, I put commute at or near the top of my priority list. Every minutes I’m not in my car are minutes I can spend with my kids. I used to live in Oceanside and work in Scripps. Everyday, I have to look at sigalert before I go to work and before I can leave work. There’s no point in leaving early if I would get home around the same time due to traffic. It used to take me 35 minutes w/out traffic and 45-50 minutes w/ moderate traffic. I pledge to never do that again. So, as soon as I could, I love back to Sorrento Valley/Mira Mesa area. My commute is now 15 blocks or 5-7 minutes door to door depending on the lights. I can have a few hours w/ my kids in the morning, a few hours w/ my kids when I get home, AND be able to go home for lunch and spend ~30-45 minutes with them. That’s priceless to me. They grow up so fast. I would have missed so much if I spent some of that time in traffic. It’s not just pure traffic time, but it’s also you not wanting to leave when there’s traffic, so you sit and wait at work for the traffic to die down.
yellowS2K, are you aware of this little area in UC: http://www.sdlookup.com/MLS-100005480-92122? Although this house is in contingent state, you can wait to see if there’s another one that pop up. If your wife works in the South East of UCSD, this place would be literally a few blocks away.
flu, I dread driving through LA when I want to go North. I vouch myself to NEVER live in LA. If I want time to myself, I just stay at work later.

December 23, 2010 at 10:29 AM #644165SD RealtorParticipantI dont mind commutes that are mindless. However commuting down like Pomerado and then through Mira Mesa is kind of a drag. Sitting on a freeway to me is not as bad.
AN the listing you posted backs up to Town Centre. Not a quiet road.

December 23, 2010 at 10:36 AM #644170anParticipantSD R, I don’t mean that listing specifically but that little community in general. There are a few houses further back from the main drag. Also, it has a walking path to UTC too.
