I’m sorry, AN. I don’t understand this. Can you elaborate on this “inside road” option?
Here’s the map to Torrey Hills area: http://goo.gl/maps/HTPN
Here’s the map to Sorrento Valley area:
http://goo.gl/maps/7rEt%5B/quote%5DI live in torrey hills, and I have to say, commute wise, it’s pretty nice. See, if I’m heading to east county in the morning, 56 east rarely has any traffic. So you’re limited by the CHP.. Takes me about 20 minutes door to door from my home to Rancho Bernardo where all the tech co’s are.
If I need to head to mira mesa, I have three routes.
1)805 Freeway and exit MM Bld. (not desirable)2)Take vista sorrento parkway, all the way to MM Bld or left onto lusk blvd were other companies are
or3)take vista sorrento parkway, left onto sorrento valley bld and end up somewhere around camino santa fe (again usually limited by the speed traps they set in the residential areas).
The only real issue is the the onramp to the 5 north ramp is always flooded when it rains, because some idiot didn’t design the drainage there correctly. But then, I just take el camino to the 56 and or 5N entrance…
Who cares how far your drive is to RB. Inquiring minds want to know how long the drive is to that mecca also known as Santee;)
Of course, it’s justs 10 minutes away π
Anyway folks, with all due respect, I think San Diegans are spoiled..Come on, normally, you probably can get to just about anywhere you want to go within 40-50 mins.
I grew up in the L.A. burbs…..You know where 40-50 minutes would take you during rush hour? Yup that’s right, nowhere….Heck, it sometimes would just take me 30-40 minutes just to get on the freeway, let alone actually move on the freeway….

December 23, 2010 at 7:55 AM #644026ScarlettParticipantWhat about La Jolla?
If you rethink your requirements – just 4 bedrooms but spacious ones – La Jolla IS the most convenient in terms of commute (or as good as Torrey Hills). Schools are excellent. If money is no object, there are some nice houses around La Jolla SCENIC Drive – that where my UCSD ex-boss (faculty) lived – and the commute is really sweet. Torrey Pines elementary had the highest API in 2010 in SDUSD. Even more towards Mt. Soledad and downtown La Jolla are not that far from UCSD and you commute on city streets.December 23, 2010 at 7:55 AM #644097ScarlettParticipantWhat about La Jolla?

My first job out of college was in Oceanside. This was the 80’s so North County didn’t have as many employment centers – it was a total reverse commute from my home in downtown SD. 40 minutes there, 45 minutes home. I swore NEVER again.
That’s 90 minutes I didn’t have to do other stuff. If I wanted to go to happy hour with friends after work I had to leave well before closing time. If I had a date and needed time to primp… it was really a time killer.
I swore never to commute more than 30 minutes again… preferably 15 minutes or less. That promise to myself has improved my quality of life. I’m less grumpy when I walk in the door. My kids spent fewer hours in daycare because I didn’t have to cover as much commute time.
Some of us are willing to live in a smaller, older home (obsolete by Brian’s terms) in order to have more time not spent commuting.
