Years ago when I looked into this, you could definitely do that. You have to get approved by Section 8 first. They come to your house and see if everything is in order: electric, phone jacks, safety stuff. However, Section 8 only pays a portion of the rent. For instance, if Section 8 states they will pay $1400 for a 3 bedroom unit, then that is all they will pay. If your unit could rent for $1800, then you either take the hit or sign lease with the tenant for the difference.
