With polls showing Democrat Martha Coakley trailing Republican Scott Brown in Tuesday’s special Massachusetts election, Democrats struggled with the harsh reality that President Barack Obama’s sweeping health care overhaul might no longer have the Senate votes to pass.
“Regardless of the outcome … this should be a gigantic wake-up call to the Democratic Party – that we’re not connecting with the needs, the aspirations and the desires of real people right now,” said San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.
