I agree that a flooded car would not be desirable. CARFAX SHOULD pick up the condition of the title, however.

Actually, it depends on the ins. co. I have seen friends vehicles “totaled” when the value of the damage is only about 30% of the blue book value.

Agreed, but I can see some sellers asking the buyer to do it and an ignorant buyer agreeing because of the low sales price and then finding out after the fact that it won’t smog w/o expensive retrofitting.

Wickedheart, if a single “private party” has been posting several late-model vehicles (in the wrong category, no less), your BS meter is probably accurate on this one. The pic on the link you posted DOES NOT look like the it was taken at a dealer but on private property.
I noticed back in April that a single private party “Alex” had no less that 79 litters of so-called “purebred” puppies for sale in different categories of dogs advertised on craigslist san diego. He’s probably still running these ads and is the US “representative” for Mexican puppy mills that are so rampant in the “pet marketplace” around here. It is so sad because these dogs have so many medical problems due to repeated inbreeding that the vet bills in the first year alone could break the average family who adopts one. They are typically sold out of cardboard boxes in parking lots for $275 to $450 (no papers, of course) when a reputable breeder would charge $850 and up. This makes me sick.
