When I was a little Sobmaz, about 40 years ago, these guys came by and wanted 5.00 from my Father to paint the address to our curb.
They said everyone was doing it, we would be the only ones who didn’t have it (Unlikely since everyone in the are was dirt poor) if we didn’t pay and of course it would be easier for the Fire Department and Police.
Well, I know we didn’t pay but a week later every house in the area had it painted on the curb, including ours.
