The reason you’re still seeing crowds at the malls is because people won’t just stop buying because of a recession. They’ll still buy. But instead of buying a LV purse they’ll buy a purse at the Gap at 50% off. Instead of buying some overpriced gimicky Bang & Olufsen system, they’ll buy a Sony at 65% off. Instead of paying the valet to park they will park it themselves. Instead of stopping for lunch at PF Changs or Cheesecake Factory, they’ll eat at Rubios in the food court. Instead of the $5.99 Starshits Mochagrandefuckachino they’ll stop by the little indie cart and spend $0.95 on a regular coffee.
It’s Christmas. People buy presents for other people. That won’t stop because of a recession. It will just “downgrade.”
