I don’t think a twin home has an advantage here… but I owned one in the Philly suburbs… a 100 year old, victorian style, twin home.
The advantages
– I had one less exterior wall to heat. That’s not a value in our climate… but back east it reduced my heating bills.
– I had the benefit of a guard dog, without the work. (neighbors dog barked at people coming onto my porch, lol.)
Mine was fee simple… property line ran exactly through the fire/party wall. No HOA’s. Only covenant prevented me from having a tannery or a manure pit in my back yard. (Seriously.) My neighbors on the other side of the wall were great… it was a good experience.
[/quote]I think it works pretty well here. During winter my condo is definitely warmed by the heat from adjacent condos. In the summer, when it’s hot, the shared walls are cooler (no outside exposure).
That’s funny about the tannery and manure pile. I’ll have to check my CCRs to see if there’s anything like that.
