This thread is awesome. Only having lived in SD for 1.5 years, we have been missing our Philly Chinatown restaurants. I have had some decent Thai here (Spice and Rice in La Jolla) and Sushi (Sushi Ota). Shanghai City was pretty good but not stellar for me. We may also venture out for dim sum (I have unfortunately been cursed with a shellfish allergy) once I get a new epi-pen.
Ranch 99 doesn’t seem any dirtier than the Chinese groceries I used to frequent in Philly or NYC. My husband is a little scared of the meat department, though.
