This is going to hit the unemployment numbers hard.
My brother in law has worked for GM for more than 15 years doing accounting/IT stuff. (Yes, somehow he did both).
He applied for a promotion 2 years ago – they gave it to him… but didn’t take away his old job. So he had 2 full time jobs and 1 salary. 2 bosses. Etc. It sucked. Then after the latest round of layoffs he was given a 3rd job. And a 3rd report tree.
I think he’s actually hoping to get laid off so he can spend time with his family again.
