There are some very valid points raised here, and as you can see by the reaction it has provoked, some have clearly hit their mark. Good for you for having the courage of your convictions. However, and there has to be a ‘however’, there is something in what you say that is relevant and symptomatic of many (if not all) places, and is endemic to the human condition. Rather than focus on San Diego, which for all it’s shortcomings has some good points as well, direct your attentions to the wider picture; urbanization, media, greed, values etc and de-personalize or detach yourself from those thoughts, so they don’t drag you down with them. You are clearly sensitive to things that others may not be able to share, but don’t be discouraged, as your sense of isolation may be part of who you are, so seek it out.
