The mountain streets in Clairemont are not short on neighborliness at all. Even though it is a mix of young and old, and of blue and white collar, we know, socialize, trade tools, and have playdates with lots of our neighbors.
Once I was with my dogs in a Motel parking lot and this old German lady was nearly scared to death. Her husband angily explained she is deathly afraid of them, was attacked or something – I didn’t really understand the words he said, but the message was clear. Since then, I have had a new-found respect for people’s aversions to dogs. I always pull my dogs away from people, but at the same time explain they are friendly and love attention. That way, people have a choice.
