The GOP already moved their money into hedge funds that are short mortgage back securities and the financials, so they want things to play out without any interference.
Very few *rich* folks were dumb enough to be RE speculators past about 2005. They have already exited their positions and sold them to over-leveraged bagholders and other suckers.
