The blind guy was found by our realtor, not the same guy that does drapery (the bone-head that drilled into our drainage pipe) and his workmanship is quite decent. Each window also has a nice looking crown-molding-like cover. We never inquired about wood stain so don’t know the price different to white.
I believe he’s a mobile installer with no store/shop. My wife compared his sample with Lowe’s and IKEA (didn’t go to JCP) and found that his has better quality, faux wood has better feel to it and better materials for the pulleys and other mechanisms. My wife’s pretty nitpicky on these things but she’s quite satisfied with his work, even though the initial communication and price negotiating didn’t go well (my wife’s not very proficient in English and I had to work).
SDEngineer is right that Plan 6 most likely has more windows and window square footage than my Plan 2, since it’s about 200 sq.ft. bigger. Keep in mind that my sliding door is not installed (would’ve been $250 more) as we’ve chosen to go with dual layer curtain (sheer + regular). The $1,800 includes tax.
SDEngineer – you should shop around a bit more, as my wife says that Lowe’s samples show significant wear & tear and the mechanisms simply look cheap. I can’t imagine Home Depot’s offering being better quality. Perhaps you should check out JCP or elsewhere. If Unixed and you are interested, send me a private mail (not sure how to do it in Pigg but I’m sure there’s a way) and I’ll give you my blind guy’s phone #.
