The author of this article interviewed me once. She’s quite sharp, and also pretty young. She thus hasn’t been infected by the unthinking “always buy real estate” reflex that plagues most (though obviously not all) people who came to financial age before this past decade. So I don’t necessarily find this article to be a contrarian indicator (although I suppose the fact that her editor let her run with the story might be!)
BTW, given these thoughts on the prevailing attitudes on home ownership amongst different demographics, I had to laugh at the first comment: an obvious (from his picture) Baby Boomer scolding the author for being short sighted and ending: “Come on Time magazine…..get real! Get Real Estate!”
