Lakers/Orlando was mild as far as most playoffs go, and never let anyone look up to sports stars, especially your kids, it’s entertainment, that’s all.
TG: I’m going to politely disagree with you on letting the kids look up to sports stars and due to one example. In my second year of coaching youth football (Pop Warner), we were invited to take our Mitey Mite team to perform against Murrieta during half time at a Chargers – Rams preseason game.
Before the game, all of the kids were allowed onto the field to watch the Chargers practice. The kids were allowed to meet the Chargers as they came off the field and two Chargers in particular are forever in my own “Hall of Fame”: Drew Brees and Lorenzo Neal. Drew Brees made a point of shaking each kid’s hand and Lorenzo Neal went from kid to kid saying, “This (youth football) is where it all starts; stick with it!”. The look on each kid’s face was priceless: A mixture of shyness, awe and pride.
So, for every stupid maggot like Michael Vick, or Allen Iverson or Manny Ramirez, you have Drew Brees, Lorenzo Neal and Peyton Manning (a friend of mine told me a very similar story about Peyton and my friend’s Pop Warner team).
Of course, the icing on the cake will be watching Lorenzo Neal opening up holes for that Raider backfield this season!
