Semi on-topic. PBS has been airing a 3 part series called “God In America”. (Haven’t watched all of it yet – just the first 2 hours). A really good background on the role religion plays in our government.
For example – I learned that Virginia had tax dollars going to the Anglican Church prior to the constitution and bill of rights. I learned that religion in the public classrooms, in New York was standard until the Catholics protested that it was all protestant teachings – and disallowed Catholic teachings.
It gives good background on how the 1st amendment was put in place to specifically to NOT favor one religion over another – and the background behind that need.
