Exactly! But I dont think anyone was questioning cops pay, it was firefighters that we were questioning. Why do firefighters make about 50% more? I dont get it. It should be the other way around.
Ironically I think we have had as many realtors killed the last few years as cops around here.
Firefighters don’t make 50% more. They make about the same. Not sure where you get your “facts” but they are lacking.
BTW, plenty of firefighters die in the line of duty as well, but cops definitely have a more difficult job. OTOH, firefighters are being paid not only for the risks they take, but because they have to be well-trained not only in firefighting, but in rescue operations, and emergency medicine.
When you hear about the “overtime” do realize that the average overtime shift is 24 hours. They’ve done studies to see how they can reduce costs, but the costs to hire additional “stand-by” personnel would be greater than the overtime costs. Again, the overtime is **in addition to** their standard 56-hour work week. Anyone who thinks it’s easy or who thinks they can do a better job is welcome to sign up.
In the meantime, we’ll just accept the “fact” that realtors provide such a valuable service to society that they deserve to live in “upscale” neighborhoods while firefighters and cops deserve to live in “lower, working-class” neighborhoods. /sarcasm
