It’s true that on MANY work days, especially with kids activities, I don’t feel like hanging out and or leave the kids on the street to play (yet).
However, there are the weekends in which is nice to meet with other parents, perhaps of similar situation, or just other neighbors even without kids; it’s nice to have neighborhood activities/events organized in nearby parks, etc.
I also haven’t even seen THAT many kids around the streets to be annoying even in WEEKENDS when we go to open houses – in most areas we’ve been(most of RB, PQ, CarmelMtnRd, Carmel Valley, SabreSprings, Scripps R). And certainly didn’t feel like tripping over 2-4 wheeled kids vehicles If it were like that during weekdays, then Yes, I’d probably start feel like BG. Weekends are different IMO. I’d like my kids to have friends in the neighborhoods that they can get to their houses without worry.
In which neighborhoods did you experience that, BG?
Except for a newer subdivision of Paradise Hills (which had a lot of kids) I’ve actually only lived in older ‘hoods with many senior citizens and few young children (some living with grandparents). The areas I’ve experienced tripping over kids/junk and noisy teenagers were newer Paradise Hills and visiting Spring Valley, EC 92021, Mira Mesa, Skyline, PQ, San Marcos, Vista, Otay Mesa, Nestor, IB and Linda Vista.
The condition of many houses in these areas reflected the “kid-weary” homeowner.
You need to evaluate this condition on a street-by-street basis, Scarlett. Some of these areas I’ve mentioned are now full of boomers/seniors because those kids have grown up and gone. My kid(s) are grown, except for one (who is almost grown). As a FT worker, I didn’t have time for “mommy and me” classes, playgroups, strollers and neighborhood bunko games. H@ll, I wouldn’t even discuss kid issues with co-workers at lunch. I am not oriented towards domestic conversation or interests. I have always been the “businesswoman” type. (This doesn’t make me any less of a mom, btw.) I am speaking here from a different time frame than the newer housing that is available today (i.e. “planned communities” around “neighborhood socializing”). This type of property was not available when I was raising kids, and, even if it were, we wouldn’t have been interested in them because we needed to be close to dtn SD and the 32nd St Naval Station. In addition, I am a private person and do not want my neighbors discussing me, since they all have a lot of time on their hands. :=!
