So what if Obama’s birth certificate says he was Muslim on that particular day when he was born? (again what is wrong with being Muslim?) Mine says I am Catholic. That organization kicked me out a long time ago and I have been agnostic since. I bet a lot of people’s original labels no longer fit them.
I happen to agree. The extended Hawaii Birth Certificate contains no additional information that is relevant to Obama’s candidacy.
All that is relevant are the date and place of birth – and the CoLB that was provided by Obama contained that information. The necessary stamps and seals were on the document – making it both legal and authentic.
So why press for the full birth certificate when the CoLB contains sufficient information to determine qualification?
The obvious reason is that the GOP has spent the past several months trying to paint Obama as a secret Muslim and sympathetic to terrorist causes. Getting an official US Government document (Hawaii CoLB) with the word “Muslim” on it would be an affirmation of the claims that the “truthers” have been making. Personally, I don’t see that it matters, but others think it is vital information.
Most of us know better than that. Kids are generally raised with – or exposed to the religion of their parents, but that doesn’t guarantee that they will be followers once they are old enough to decide for themselves.
I think it’s fairly clear that Obama is estranged from the Muslim side of his family. And you’re right – there isn’t anything remarkable with that being his assigned religion on the day of his birth.
I still insist that the complete birth certificate was wanted by 527 groups to be used as a backdrop for one of their “scary, secret Muslim” commercials. There is nothing else of value on that document.
