“rare earth” metals are not actually rare, they are just messy to mine. China captured the market with
cheap labor and lax environmental controls. There are plenty of rare earth metals right here in the USA, it’s just that mines have been shuttered in the recent past but can and are being re-opened with the time lag driving up prices and scarcity.
