Crap? Have you spent much time in these neighborhoods? Talk about sweet spots. I guess for a lot of folks, much of San Diego is “Undiscovered Country.” There are great streets and sections in Linda Vista, for example. Have you seen the view from a nice lot up there?

Totally agree with your sentiment about the rhythms of the neighborhood. When we were looking for a rental in S/N Park, I was amazed at the difference a block makes.
There are nice streets in La Mesa and allied gardens, really nice streets. But on the whole, they are pretty junky. Especially when you consider what 400k buys there vs. anywhere outside of S. California. Its still twice as expensive as a similarly demographic neighborhood in Minneapolis (which is not a cheap house market by US standards btw).
