If you want to abandon the 4th Amendment, I’m not fine with that. The guys who wrote it were pretty smart. Maybe they knew how it would play out.
I’m in total support of the 4th Amendment as it applies to traffic stops (where a citizen is believed to have been violating a traffic law).
Unfortunately, these “checkpoints” are not considered “traffic stops.” The citizens going thru them are only trying to get from Point A to Point B. They are a byproduct of 9/11 and the “war on drugs.” Thus, the HSO’s don’t typically ask to see the driver’s registration and proof of insurance. They’re looking for certain things, and “profiling” is the way they do it.
Got a complaint that you were treated “unreasonably” at one of these “checkpoints?” Write your Congressman/woman :=!
