EXACTLY what I was thinking. These ’emergency powers’ have changed the balance of power in the federal gov’t. for the worse. We have new rules in the name of ‘security’, telecomm’s spying on private citizens without warrants, ridiculous passport requirements (TJ anyone?), etc.
Congress should not grant this request. They will, and Bush will be the scapegoat, but the future administrations will enjoy the new powers they have.
