CA Renter: Yes, in the private sector you are correct about the benefits of unions; and in the private sector I would love to see unions make a comeback. I understand fully that the gov’t started breaking the backs of unions back in the 50’s in the name of communism.
The big difference is that private sector unions and their members are not tax payer supported.
Where in the world did you get that idea? The communists had nothing to do with breaking the backs of unions…quite the contrary. It’s the corporations — and the elite — who fought the unions. It had nothing to do with communists or the government. Why do you think the govt is the last bastion for unions?
Again, WE ALL have to pay for ALL workers’ wages (public, private, unionized, and non-unionized) **and the profits of capitalists, as well.** The question is whether or not the workers in this country would realize any savings from the destruction of unions, and IF they did, would it offset the losses they would see in their own compensation, as wages/benefits fall for ALL workers, public and private.
Not only that, the money from govt workers goes directly into the local economy. If that money is pulled out, how in the world does anyone think it would benefit workers in the private sector?
The purported “savings” that would come from the loss of unions would not be realized by workers in the private sector, but would be going to those who oppose labor (pubilc, private, unionized, and non-unionized) because “labor” cuts into their profits.
