Occupant deaths per million registered passenger vehicles 1-3 years old, 1978-2006 pickup are worse than cars or suvs. No surprise since pickups have worst safety eqpmt.

Safest are minivans, larger suvs and luxury cars per million registered vehicles. Authors state they have attempted to normalize for females drivers, but not for other demographics.
