He (and I) only assert it because it’s probably true. For 98% of taxpayers it is. If you had the same income and same deductions over the last 2 years, you are paying lower federal income taxes, unless you happen to be one of the fortunates that have earnings over $200,000. In that case, you might be paying higher taxes. And yeah, it’s all there in black and white.
