just to take this thread in a little different direction.
GM said they blew through something like 7 billion in Q3 2008. Ford I think Blew through something like 2 billion. Chrysler is bleeding, but no one knows how much exactly.
Lets call it 10 billion in Q3 2008.
There obviously were many many losses in the previous quarters, or we wouldnt be talking about bailouts.
How is 25 billion 3 ways gonna solve the problem again? 25 billion buys GM 1 more year at current rates, forget Ford/chrysler getting any. Split it up evenly and 25B/3 gets GM MAYBE 2 quarters. It could save ford, 8 billion would buy a year or maybe 18 months. That may get past the recession and give it time to make a decent CAR that people want to buy, not the truck or SUV only choice we have already lived with. Who knows about Chrysler.
But it wont save GM. And if GM goes under the parts suppliers and related support buisness go under. That will drag Ford and Chrylser under if for no other reason then they couldnt stand if GM got good deals in BK and they didnt.
SO I guess my question is why are we talking about 25 billion. It isnt enough. Good money (debt)waisted.
