Funny this thread was dug back up. I was at the mall last weekend getting a birthday present for stepson. Went *window* shopping at Nordstrom. Just peaking in the shoe department. Every shoe I checked was made in China. These were NOT low priced shoes. These were designer brand-name shoes made in China. And checking the quality, it was the same as low priced shoes.
Lucky for me, I don’t need/want shoes, but it was disappointing. I remember a lifetime ago when I would go to Nordstrom shoe department and find really nice quality Italian shoes.
Also, looking for clothes for my stepson, just about everything was made in China. And it wasn’t that cheap (quality was, though). I just was thinking back to when I was a teenager. Clothes were not that expensive and were good quality.
So different now. I mean, some of these t-shirts are so thin, looks like they would dissolve on first washing.[/quote]
We’ve noticed the same thing and Nordstrom. One day, I decided to check out labels there, and every single one of them said the article was made in China or SE Asia. Not a single one that I saw was made in the USA, yet they still want us to pay “made in USA” prices.
Based on what was said on this thread (or a similar one…didn’t check all the posts again), I decided to buy New Balance tennis shoes last week. Even those are often made overseas now, with a few exceptions where they were “assembled” in the US (probably by foreign workers), with components from overseas.
We are doing all we can to buy US-made goods, but it’s NOT easy, even if you’re willing to pay more.
