I hear what you’re saying about manual transmission… My current car is my first car that isn’t stick – only because it’s variable transmission hybrid… doesn’t come in a stick. I also call b-s on Brian’s comment about women and manual transmissions… I know more men that don’t know how to drive stick than women… Maybe it’s just the crowd I hang with.
My best friend had a miata for years – even had it shipped to Italy when she lived there for 2 years so she’d have a fun ride on the auto-strada. She now drives a Suburu WRX wagon and does some pretty intense road rallies with it. Loves the performance. It’s styling isn’t sexy -but it handles well and can fit a mountain bike and luggage in the back.
My sister has a mini cooper and LOVES it. I drove it when we did a road trip last year – definitely a fun drive.
