Josh, some of the items are definitely comfort food, but I certainly don’t think comfort food means the place cannot be classy and upscale while also being casual. I think the foodie term might be New American. That said, I definitely think its fine to bring a 16 month old. Heck, you can bring your baby anywhere as long as they are well behaved. Some of the more traditional “fine” dining establishments are not really my speed and also not that kid friendly.
My other suggestions are Modus Supper Club or Avenue 5 both of which have great food.
I also like Bandar, the food is great, but the service is not, therefore I wouldn’t recommend it for an anniversary dinner nor with a child.
